Major Door and Loading Bay Upgrade Completed for Leading Food Manufacturer in County Cork
A leading food manufacturer in County Cork has strengthened its production capability with the completion of a significant extension to its facility, supported by our latest installation of industrial doors and loading bay equipment. This development enhances operational efficiency and reinforces the high hygiene, safety and environmental-control standards essential for modern food production.
The centrepiece of the project is a newly constructed loading bay designed to support a smooth, secure and contamination-controlled flow of goods. The bay features a Crawford OH1042P sectional door working in combination with an inflatable dock shelter, creating a tight seal that helps maintain stable indoor conditions during loading and unloading. For added safety, an ASSA ABLOY DE6290AR automatic vehicle wheel restraint was installed, securing vehicles in position throughout the loading process and reducing the risk of accidental movement. Integral to the loading zone is an ASSA ABLOY DL6220T telescopic-lip dock leveller, complete with buffers. This unit provides a robust, flexible and safe bridge between the dock and the vehicle, accommodating differing vehicle bed heights to ensure smooth, bump-free loading and unloading. Its heavy-duty S355 steel construction and hydraulic telescopic lip deliver the long-term reliability required for the high-frequency activity expected at the facility.
Within the facility, two dedicated interlock zones play a vital role in maintaining climate control. The first zone features two ASSA ABLOY HS9110P fabric high speed doors on the interior of the building. These doors are activated by a remote transmitter and receiver system, allowing operators inside the airlock to open and close them as required.
The second airlock zone comprises an ASSA ABLOY RR3000 ISO rigid high speed door positioned on the exterior envelope of the building, paired with an ASSA ABLOY HS9110P high speed door on the interior side before entry into the manufacturing area. The RR3000 ISO was selected for its excellent thermal insulation, featuring a 50 mm insulated panel that minimises heat loss, prevents condensation and provides an outstanding U-value. At this busy entry point, where forklift traffic is high, the door’s opening speed of up to 2.2 m/s helps maintain thermal performance while supporting efficient vehicle movement.
All high speed doors installed on the project are designed for areas where rapid movement, temperature stability and cleanliness are essential. Their advanced interlocking functionality ensures that only one door within each paired zone can open at any given time. This prevents unwanted air movement between areas and protects sensitive zones from dust, temperature fluctuations and potential contamination. The system’s ability to store an up-command and integrate external lock switches gives the client precise control over workflow and environmental integrity.
As part of the overall extension and industrial door package of the project, sixteen new steel doors were installed throughout the facility. These doors provide strong, low-maintenance access points tailored to the high-usage demands of the site, contributing to the overall durability and reliability of the upgraded operation.
