Automation Technician
The automation technician will be expected to implement new equipment and processes into production that will improve quality, efficiency, and/or safety. This will include various technologies including robotics, PLC’s, machining and forming equipment (CNC and manual).
The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated equipment and systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment. This role supports the smooth operation of production lines and ensures all automated processes run efficiently, safely, and reliably.
You will receive guidance and support from experienced veterans but are expected to be self-directed and complete tasks without supervision. You must also be wise enough to ask for assistance when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and commission automated machinery and control systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on automation equipment, including PLCs, robotics, sensors, and actuators.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to electrical, mechanical, and software components of automation systems.
- Monitor system performance and make adjustments to optimize efficiency and product quality.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to implement process improvements and upgrades.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications in compliance with company standards.
- Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and company policies.
- Train operators and other staff on proper use and basic troubleshooting of automated equipment.

Desired Experience:
- A strong history of implementing automation projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with PLC programming, industrial robotics, and automated control systems preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to interpret technical schematics and manuals.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to electrical and mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Minimum Experience: (Candidate must have a basic understanding of these systems)
- Machine guarding and machine control safety
- Lock out/tag out programs
- Electrical background
- Print/schematic reading skills
- Control systems training, PLC/prior experience
- Understanding of pneumatic control systems, valves etc.
- Mechanical aptitude, prior experience or training
- Familiarity with industrial robots
- Computer skills
- Ability to work at either Rockwood or Somerset locations
