Steel plant ArcelorMittal Ghent chooses the versatile door solutions by ASSA ABLOY
ArcelorMittal is the second-largest steel plant in the world, producing 58 million tons of steel in 2023 and having locations in no less than 60 different countries. The site in Ghent has grown into one of the largest production departments. To ensure smooth operations there, ArcelorMittal uses various types of doors from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, from roller shutters and overhead sectional doors to mega doors for very large openings.
Steel plant: From iron ore to high-quality sheet steel
High-quality sheet steel is produced at the ArcelorMittal site in Ghent, mainly for the automotive and white goods industries. "Our site has several departments," says Enrico Danneels, maintenance manager for doors & structures. "We start with the raw materials, followed by the coking plant and the blast furnace. Then we move to the steel plant, where the steel slabs are cast and sent to the hot strip mill. Finally, they are sent to the logistics department for shipment throughout Europe." Enrico Danneels continues to explain:

The ArcelorMittal steel plant in Ghent requires various types of doors. "We work with three different solutions: high-speed roller shutters, sectional doors, and mega doors for very large openings. Of course, all doors are necessary, but the doors in the logistics department are really crucial. In this department, we specifically chose the RR3000 series high-speed doors. These doors open very smoothly and are easy to maintain. Enrico Danneels emphasizes:
