Our global teams work together to create products and services that add everyday simplicity and convenience to our users’ lives. With the ability to control access to what they love the most, we’re able to provide peace of mind through safety and visibility.
We are seeking to hire an Electrical Engineer I – Hardware Development (PCB Design & Validation Focus) who will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and validating electronic hardware solutions for next-generation access control products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—from concept development through pilot production—to ensure the reliability, manufacturability, and success of new and existing products.
This role involves creating and reviewing schematics and printed circuit board (PCB) designs, conducting comprehensive design verification testing, and continuously improving products throughout the development cycle. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates excellent communication skills, and possesses skills in PCB design, test equipment usage, and hardware troubleshooting.
This position will be full-time onsite in New Haven, CT or Berlin, CT. The candidate will be required to work outside of both locations regularly.
What you will be doing
- Work closely with a diverse engineering team (hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and QA) to drive new product innovation
- Participate in Pre-Product Innovation (PPI), New Product Innovation (NPI), and Continuous Product Innovation (CPI) initiatives
Hardware Design & Verification - Translate Product Requirements into comprehensive design specifications
- Design schematics and printed circuit boards (PCBs) using ECAD tools (e.g., Altium)
- Conduct peer reviews of product designs to ensure quality and adherence to standards
- Develop Design Verification Testing (DVT) plans, execute tests, and create detailed test reports
- Collaborate with the Test and Manufacturing teams to ensure testability and manufacturability throughout the product lifecycle
- Oversee prototype builds, debug hardware issues, and implement improvements
- Perform Product Validation and usability testing to confirm performance under real-world conditions
- Use a variety of test equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, DVMs, logic/protocol analyzers) to evaluate and troubleshoot designs
- Conduct basic PCB repairs and modifications, as needed, during development.
- Follow Pilot Production builds and reviews first articles for design integrity
- Investigate field returns, perform root-cause analysis, and implement design changes or component replacements for EOL parts
- Apply SAFe principles to improve workflows, reduce design cycle times, and enhance overall product quality
Project Management - Own day-to-day project tasks, ensuring key milestones and deliverables are met on schedule
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors to track progress and resolve issues
- Contribute to project documentation, risk assessments, and change management processes
- Plan and manage day-to-day engineering tasks, coordinating with project managers to meet milestones and deliverables
- Proactively identify potential project risks or design challenges, proposing solutions to keep development on track.
What we are looking for
- BSEE/BSEET or equivalent; advanced degree or certifications a plus
- Relevant hardware design experience, particularly in PCB design with Altium and validation testing
- Exposure to ECAD tools (e.g., Altium) for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Understanding of analog, digital, and embedded hardware principles
- Skilled in using test equipment (oscilloscopes, DVMs, function generators, logic/protocol analyzers) for troubleshooting.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English; able to present technical information clearly
- Works effectively in both small teams and global project environments
- Self-motivated and results-driven; able to set and achieve goals with minimal supervision
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 50lbs with or without accommodation
- Must be willing to travel and work between NH and Berlin CT locations
- Must maintain product confidentiality and proprietary design information
