Director of Operations

Responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, order entry, customer service, shipping, quality, and continuous improvement. This role supports full P&L accountability for operational performance, with a direct impact on customer satisfaction, retention, and repeat business, by driving cost control, margin improvement, and working capital optimization. The Director also oversees engineering personnel dedicated to developing custom solutions for customers, ensuring seamless collaboration between production and customer-facing functions to deliver on-time, high-quality results.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  • Lead all operational functions, including manufacturing, planning, materials, logistics, configuration management, quality, order entry, customer service, shipping, and engineering resources dedicated to custom solution design.
  • Oversee a total workforce of at least 100 employees, with responsibility for performance across multiple shifts and/or production areas.
  • Partner with sales leadership to ensure seamless order entry and customer service processes, delivering world-class responsiveness, accuracy, and satisfaction.
  • Direct shipping and logistics operations to ensure on-time, damage-free delivery to customers domestically and internationally.
  • Provide operational oversight for engineering teams engaged in customer-specific product design and prototyping to ensure manufacturability, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Support full P&L accountability for operations, including cost control, margin performance, productivity improvement, and working capital optimization.
  • Demonstrated success in managing vertically integrated operations with processes such as metal fabrication, welding, powder coating, machining, and assembly.
  • Proven track record in both high-volume and low-volume manufacturing, ideally in mechanical or electro-mechanical environments.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or other structured continuous improvement programs that deliver measurable results.
  • Direct oversight of supply chain activities, including procurement, material planning, and vendor performance management.
  • Strong financial acumen, including working knowledge of cost accounting and the ability to interpret and act on financial statements.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced PC skills in business applications.
  • Skilled in developing operational metrics, analyzing performance trends, and implementing corrective actions to achieve targets.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to engage, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to executive leadership and customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven record of achieving operational, quality, and cost goals on time and within budget.
  • Travel required, both domestically and internationally, up to 25% of the time.
  • Accountable for the effectiveness of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems and ensuring conformity to ISO 9001 & 14001 standards.
  • Ensure operational policies and objectives are established and aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet operational goals and customer requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all operational areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises Operations personnel in conjunction with Vice President.  Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Master’s degree (MBA or related) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, including at least 5 years in a senior operations management role.

 

Other Skills

  • Proven ability to lead and integrate cross-functional teams across manufacturing, supply chain, customer service, and engineering functions.
  • Experience developing and executing significant projects and/or initiatives.
  • A track record of driving measurable improvements, such as cost reductions or improved on-time delivery performance.
  • Experience with change management, such as integrating teams and work cultures.
  • Experience in qualifying, managing and directing offshore suppliers.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in spreadsheets, database software, ERP systems, and other business applications; working knowledge of email and word processing tools.

 

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English; ability to write routine test reports and correspondence. 

 

Mathematical Ability

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to analyze operational performance, develop budgets, model cost structures, calculate margins, and interpret financial and statistical data. Proficient in using quantitative analysis to drive decision-making, optimize processes, and support P&L performance.

 

This position is onsite at the Lindon, UT production facility.
