Technical Designer

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Manage assigned projects, including the preparation, revision, and submission of shop drawings in alignment with project specifications.
  • Develop detailed door schedules, including handing directions, based on IFC documents and architectural details.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and guidelines for specialized doors such as fire-rated, security, and blast-resistant types.
  • Oversee pre-production design and programming activities in accordance with released job orders and project requirements.
  • Propose optimized design and production solutions that align with facility capabilities and minimize material consumption.
  • Review both standard and custom shop drawings, ensuring hardware compatibility with door operations and functional requirements.
  • Independently interpret shop drawings and prepare comprehensive production documentation, including detailed drawings, BOMs, cut lists, and CNC programs.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal teams including Projects, Sales, and technical departments to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Prepare development drawings, nesting layouts, machine programming, and support R&D initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to verify all orders prior to production release.
  • Liaise with the shop floor team to clarify technical requirements and ensure accurate execution based on their operational understanding.
  • Receive sales orders or pre-sales requests from the Technical Manager to initiate technical submittals.
  • Prepare and submit technical, material, and shop drawings for client and consultant approvals.
  • Generate work orders for door corners, colour samples, mock-ups, and hardware samples as per project specifications.
  • Issue production release documents and manage any variations in quantity or specifications against the original sales order.
  • Provide installation door schedules and floor plans to the Projects team for execution

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS: 

  • Diploma / Degree in Engineering
  • GAI (Diploma from Guild of Architectural Ironmongery).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in pre-production design dwgs and detailing with required program for shop floor
  • Hands on experience in working on customized production and R&D
