Job Title:              Field Service Technician

Location:              SoCal Region – Sand Diego Area

Department       Field Service 

Reports to:          Field Service Manager or Team Coordinator

FLSA Status:        Full-Time, Non-Exempt

 

 

The Field Service Technician provides customer service in person and/or by telephone to customers in and around the SoCal – San Diego area . The Field Service Technician will also help fulfill the needs of the maintenance schedule when needed by performing preventative maintenance on parking access, as well as software and/or hardware. Works with upper-level support to troubleshoot/setup/configure car access systems to include LAN (Local Area Networks). Effectively understands and troubleshoots basic setup of credit card configuration within the PARCS (parking access & revenue control system) network.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Perform field repairs on parking and building access systems, addressing hardware, software, and low-voltage electrical issues.

  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems, including complex software issues and troubleshooting down to board-level components.
  • Manage network configurations, identifying and troubleshooting LAN setups, including routers, modems, and switches.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, such as multimeters, network testers, and signal toners, to assess and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with upper-level support to configure firewalls, routers, and other network devices as needed.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of technical issues for both internal and external clients.
  • Maintain inventory and work orders, accurately recording transactions in the ERP system and keeping necessary equipment levels stocked.
  • Ensure vehicle readiness and maintenance, keeping service vehicles properly maintained to support field operations.
  • Execute preventative maintenance, conducting scheduled inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments on equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including service coordinators, advisors, and management, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

 

  • Must be 21+ years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel to customer locations for field work as required.
  • Proficient in Windows Server (2008-2016), SQL, Windows OS (7, 10+), and network firewall configurations.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and adapting to evolving systems.
  • Independent worker with effective communication, keeping stakeholders informed via ERP system, email, and phone.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis.
  • Completion of SKIDATA technical certification training within 24 months or prior completion of required courses.

 

Education:

 

 

Valid Driver's License, in state of residence.

Physical Demands:

Employees must meet physical demands essential to the role, including frequent driving, standing, walking, and manual tasks requiring hand dexterity. The job involves lifting/moving 50+ pounds, working at heights, and assembling small parts. Strong vision, balance, and stamina are required for prolonged standing and the use of various tools, including construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing instruments such as oscilloscopes and ammeters.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or automobiles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.

Travel:

There may be occasional travel outside of the employee’s regular region; this travel may be by airplane or vehicle and will be planned with as much advanced notice as possible.

Schedule:

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional weekend availability upon advance notice. Flexibility is required based on business needs, which may include overtime, weekend shifts, or extended hours beyond the standard schedule. Technicians participate in an on-call rotation one week per month. Supervisors will provide advance notice when possible and distribute hours equitably among qualified employees
