Sr. Manager, New Product Development

Job Summary

As Sr. Manager of New Product Development, you'll lead breakthrough innovations in smart home technology—from ultra-low power IoT devices to seamless Matter integration—while building and scaling a world-class engineering team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in firmware development with an understanding of hardware design and prior experience with ultra-low power architecture wireless communication, IoT security, and motor control.  We value technical skills and knowledge at every level of the engineering team, and you will have autonomy to use your expertise to guide all stages of product development.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Leadership & Technical Oversight – Build and scale a team of engineers and team leads to high-performing engineering teams across hardware and firmware disciplines
  • Product Development – Drive technical vision and architecture decisions for next-generation smart lock platforms.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work with product and program managers, cloud and mobile app teams, and manufacturing to align development efforts.
  • Innovation & Problem Solving – Research and implement new tools, technologies, and processes  to ensure continuous improvement to our products, people and approach.
  • Technical Communication – Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable information for stakeholders.
  • Industry Engagement – Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in embedded systems, wireless communication, and security. Participating in industry standards development as needed.

 

Education and Experience Profile

 

  • BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 10+ years of experience in product development for consumer electronics.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams, with direct responsibility for engineering management.
  • Experience scaling consumer IoT products from concept to high volume production.  Specific examples of IoT products brought to market is required, battery powered devices is preferred.
  • Strong background in firmware development for battery operated embedded systems with an understanding of hardware design.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and develop engineering talent.

 

Required Skills

 

  • Expertise in embedded firmware development, including C/C++, RTOS, and modern development practices like CI/CD, and DevOps for embedded systems
  • Familiarity of the electronics hardware design and validation process.
  • Ability to solve complex technical challenges in battery-powered product design, wireless communication (Bluetooth, Thread, Z-wave, Wi-Fi, etc.), and IoT security.
  • Proficiency in debugging, testing, and validating hardware and firmware.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving technical execution.
  • Ability to manage and stay engaged with multiple projects across various stages of product development
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Work Environment

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Hybrid work in office 3 days/week.
  • Infrequent travel to support product development and partnerships

 

Pay Range: $145,669-$228,909.

 

This “base salary range” is a reasonable estimate for this position at the time of posting. Pay within each range is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, to primary work job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location. ASSA ABLOY conducts regular review of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.
