Payroll Specialist

ASSA ABLOY is a world-leader in total door opening solutions. The Americas division, headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, employs approximately 9,000 people and is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join the Shared Services Payroll team.  

 

The Payroll Specialist will serve as the centralized point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries and serve as a resource for payroll processing, and is responsible for all payroll input, output, reconciliation and distribution the organization's bi-weekly and monthly pay cycles.  

  • Responsible for maintaining and handling all transactions essential to the accurate and timely processing for the bi-weekly, bi-monthly and monthly payrolls. 

  • Manage payroll change processing, raises, retro pay, commission, bonuses, benefit deductions, location moves and terminations. 

  • Maintain payroll records and follow established SOX processing procedures and company policies to ensure compliance. 

  • Partner with the HR team to ensure payroll data flows seamlessly.  

  • Act as a point of contact for employees and managers. 

  • Calculate and process manual checks and voids as requested in a timely manner. 

  • Ensure compliance with and maintain current knowledge of all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws, research laws as questions/issues arise, and respond timely to all correspondence from federal, state and unemployment agencies. 

  • Analyze various reports/statements, handle relevant payroll reporting - weekly, monthly, non-tax related quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation, sick and personal days accrual, tax deductions, benefits deductions, etc.), and prepare all monthly and ad hoc reports as requested by management. 

  • Special projects including but not limited to payroll system implementation, policies implementation, support of preparation of contracts and salary agreements, report filings, audits, etc. 

  • 401k administration, including analysis, funding, etc. 

Requirements:  

  • 5+ years of recent hands-on payroll experience, processing multi-site and multi-state payrolls.  

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is ideal, but not required. 

  • Solid experience in payroll processing/management. 

  • Thorough knowledge of payroll and accounting principles/procedures. 

  • Experience with ADP is required, EV5 is strongly preferred. 

  • Experience with time and attendance systems is required, e-Time is preferred. 

  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
